Default Reboot while playing WoW

I am getting random reboots while playing World of Warcraft.

I was told that there was an issue with the ATI Catalyst drivers and .NET 2.0 that causes random reboots and that I should uninstall both then reinstall .Net and then reinstall my ATI drivers.

This significantly cut down on the frequency of the reboots, but they still occur every now and again, usually at the most inopportune time.

Digging through the Event Viewer, this is what I'm getting:

Code:

After rebooting I submitted the error report and was promptly redirected to this page here: Microsoft Windows Error Reporting

Seems to indicate that a driver is causing the issue. All my drivers are completely up to date, including motherboard chipset drivers, LAN drivers, video drivers, sound drivers.

This system is BRAND NEW. I just built it less than a week ago. I have already thoroughly tested each component to try to isolate any defects, but so far everything checks out 100%.

CPU temp at full load rarely goes over 60C averaging around 55C. GPU is more around 45C at load. I don't like the temp of the CPU but I'm using a generic store bought fan/heat sink with the included thermal compound as a temporary solution until I get a real one but 60C shouldn't cause any problems.

From here I'm at a loss. Any help appreciated.

Thanks,
~Darxide

Hello Darxide, welcome to PCHF.

Your problems are the result of a hardware failure, somewhere between your motherboard and CPU. Hardware failures and communication problems with your CPU are evident in most of these logs. The remaining few are inconclusive, but I believe they are most likely related.

First of all, please make sure your not overclocking your CPU at all. List your PC Spec's (instructions on my sig) for an idea of what your maximum temperatures should be. Speedfan can also be used to check correct voltages for your motherboard too.

Make sure your CPU is not overheating by running Speedfan: SpeedFan - Access temperature sensor in your computer

Check the motherboard for any physical signs of failure (not always visible), with the capacitors onboard your motherboard, so you'll need to open you PC and visually inspect this. Capacitor failure will show as signs of leakage, either on the side of the capacitor, or on top. Capacitors may also look fat as opposed to a perfect cylinder shape.

As mentioned in my first post, neither the CPU nor the GPU is overheating and neither is overclocked. The voltages and multipliers are set to exactly the box specs. My DRAM timing is also at spec and not overclocked.

It's not due to bulging caps. I know what a bulging capacitor is since I worked as a Dell service technician during the Optiplex GX270 and GX280 fiasco.

Also as stated in my OP these are all brand new parts. I'm still convinced this is a driver or motherboard setting issue as faulty drivers or bad settings can masquerade as 0x50 errors.

EDIT: I noticed that my DRAM DIMM voltage was defaulting a tad low (1.92V whereas the manufacturer suggests 2.0V-2.1V) and raising the voltage seems to have stabilized the system. I will continue to test, as I said the reboot is very intermittent.

Were you with Getronics by any chance? I worked for them for 7 years, never again.. nightmare of a company!

I can't really tell you much other than what I've told you so far, other than I'm certain that this is a hardware issue. Though, WoW does seem take hardware to the the edge of hell more than any other game I've encountered yet, although this in part may have something to do with the fact it's a very popular game.

Let us know how you get on with your testing.

No, I worked for BancTec. It was actually a very good company, I have no complaints. Enjoyed my time there =)

I'll let you know the outcome.
