Default need a new gaming pc & need ideas??

Hi all, this is my 2nd post on pc help forum. The 1st post was about my graphics card, its a geforce fx 5200 and the PC is ATHLON 64 processor 3000+, 512MB RAM.
Basically i need a new gaming system as the one I'm on just now cant play the latest games which is a nightmare for me as i love my 1st person shooters i was playing BATTLEFIELD 2142 for about 2 years solid then all of a sudden my PC cant play any of the games that i want C.O.4/CRYSIS/ALLIED ASSAULT.
So i need to buy a new system but i am not clued up on what is what, as i don't know what i will need to play all of these games smoothly so i need your help, Ive been playing online/offline 1st person shooters for 4 years with this PC when all of a sudden 4 years later my PC is an antique, damn time flies fast.
From looking at the forum i take it i will need 1GB or ram ?? maybe 2, i don't know i need enlightenment what should i get and as i live near Edinburgh in scotland where should i go to buy a system people are telling me to stay away from P.C world.
When it comes to graphics/moterboards/cpu's i havent got a clue im a NOOB so go easy on me no goobldygook keep is simple.

Thanks in advance guys

Hi, A simple build would be a at least a dual core processor, 2 gigs of ram, vista, 9x series nvidia card 500 watt psu, and a decent hard drive. you could build a simple system around 1k to play the latest games smoothly.

Hi,

I built a:

Dual Core Processor (Intel E4600)
2GB RAM
500W PSU
AsRock Motherboard
Case with 120mm fan
Lightscribe DVD drive
HD 4670 graphics card

And it cost me between £400 and £500

I bought the parts from Cheap Laptops, Hard Drives, LCD Monitors, TVs and more at Ebuyer

Note that prices have changed and some parts aren't in stock. You could also save money by buying a cheaper case...the case was £75.00

BUT I built this myself. If you bought it in store then it would probably be between £700 and £1000.

If you build it yourself then it will be cheaper. If you look on ebuyer the cheapest gaming PC is almost £600.00 (but it is a VERY high spec...almost TOO high).
