Hi!!

i'v just bought cod4,second hand,and installed it on my pc.Problem is,though the solo campaign works with no trouble, i can't get on to the multiplayer mode.
When i try to start it a pop up comes on saying that there is a problem with the file.It then just says that windows will close it and search for a solution,but no help or advise comes up.

I know the risk buying second hand games with codes could be that the person that sold it to me has not uninstalled the game from previous pc's,but it doesnt mention,at any time,that the code is already in use..
It just won't open up!

I've tried accessing the multiplayer mode just from my desktop and also from the solo mode,but still no good.

Could anyone help me out here,please?

Do you have the necessary ports open?

If you do, I would assume that the code has been used. Maybe they have tied the code to a MAC address or maybe they invalidate a code as soon as it has been used. Which would explain why you are having trouble.

Buy a game brand new or maybe you can buy codes on ebay. Not sure if that would be successful though.

Yeah sorry but it does seem like common sense really that they invalidate codes when a person logs in online. Otherwise illegal copies would be all over the place. This has been a practice in online games for a long time now.

Oh and maybe you can transfer the Program Files and registry info from your bro's PC onto your own. I know there was a way to do this for FFXI which was another online game.

You should look into it. It basically involves copying the game information to another PC and you then play it from that PC with all the registration info from the other PC. If you google copy FFXI to another computer you should fine some guidelines.

Of course, its easier but more expensive to buy a brand new copy.

Actually, if you want to play him you would still need a new game. Because even if you did transfer the files, the game would have the same license and so only one of you could be online at one time

Ebay can be quite cheap. For consoles, I sometimes buy the NTSC version a lot cheaper than the PAL (UK) version, not sure if you can do this on PC but its something to look into. I know that the Xbox 360 version of COD4 is region free.
