Default Big performance problem

Got a big problem with my laptop what i got back at the end of October, CoD 4 is pretty much the only game I play on it although i dabble in bioshock from time to time and when i got it it could play both these games fine with relatively toned down res/settings. It even managed to play CoD 4 in full res (1440x990 for my laptop) at what i'd call playable (although others may not). Anyway my point is this; things aint what they used to be. My performance has been steadily dropping off and bioshock became unplayable as far back as maybe 3 weeks ago, and now CoD 4 isn't even playing in the lowest possible res. I spent all of today defragging and decluttering my hdd to no effect! I did a virus scan with AVG which turned up nothing but some cookies which i got it to delete and i updated vista, which is pretty much everything i could think of that could of been causing problems. none of it worked!!

I really don't want to have to reinstall vista because i dont want that to become something i do systematicaly every 2-3 months. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what my problems might be? Its a HP and im running Vista Home Premium (32-bit) on a HP laptopwith a 2.4Ghz turion 64 x2 proccesor, an Nvidia GeForce 8400M GS and 3.00GBs of RAM. It cost £700 i think but right now i feel i may as well of bought a £300 pc as all i can use it for now is normal desktop stuff which is rather annoying. Thanks to anyone that can help

Could you click the prework link in my signature please? I just want to rule out a possible malware infection which is sucking up your resources.

ynotidono,

I don't think the attitude is necessary. If you do not wish me to help in fixing there are many on this forum who have problems and wish for someone to help them. If you choose to reconsider and follow with my first suggestion of completing the prework I will still help you.

If you are concerned about the possible ramifications that doing some of the things outlined in Prework can do to your computer I assure you our entire staff (of which I am a part as denoted right below my name in purple and orange) is extremely well trained and well versed in many areas.

I urge you to visit the two below links. One outlines the Prework which I mentioned above and the other is just some information on our staff.

Please Read Before Following Prework Instructions:
http://www.pchelpforum.com/new-hijac...tructions.html

Prework Link:
http://www.pchelpforum.com/new-hijac...e-posting.html

Again, if you still wish to be helped with this issue I am more than happy to assist.

Regards,
Crush

Hey Guys,

@ Yno, my welcome to PCHF. I would like to reiterate Crush's information to you. Perhaps you are unused to a forum such as this. Our entire Security Staff is extremely well trained and experienced. We strive very hard to make recommendations based on experience, knowledge and training, not just random opinion.

It is highly likely that you have an infection that AVG did not detect, no one program can be expected to stay up on every threat that is out on the net. Crush's instructions are simply that you allow us to make sure that malware is not the cause, before we start troubleshooting without fixing a possible root cause of your troubles.

Please understand that we do not allow rude posts on this forum, and try to interact civily when posting here at PCHF.

Looking forward to your reply,

TTFN

LGW

Go ahead a do the prework if you wish for the fantastic tech team and the forums members to help you fix the problems. I agree with crush and ladygreenwhich.

Your pc has a decent specced pc and should be able to run those games and one thing that malware etc does to your pc is seriously downgrades it's performance
