I'm getting the same problem like everyone else with this game.
I have reinstall, install patch, and unchecked load startup items in the msconfig. I still get Fallout 3 stop working.

Please help.

How do I Disable the sound driver?
I don't have the ffdshow folder.

No worries that you don't have the ffdshow folder. The tip sheet is meant to provide possible solutions to many people. Have you stepped through the others that you did know how to address? Any difference?

To disable the sound driver is to Right click My Computer -> Manage -> Device Manager -> Sound, Video & Game Controllers -> locate your audio driver there -> right click and select Disable. Return to Enable after your testing.

When I disable the sound I get a new error: No sound device detected Fallout 3 cannot run.
