Unhappy 9fps and bad performance

Okay guys, this is going to take some time for me to explain, so please be patient and read, i'm pulling my hair out here

I have XP Pro, service pack 2. 2GB of RAM, 3.0gz ht intel processor, nvidea 8800 gt.

Almost 2 months I moved to my university city, I live in a flat in the city center (not on campus).

Ever since my fps on games like team fortress 2 and counter strike source have been really bad. I don't know whether it's anything to do with internet connection, my bandwidth here is better then home.

However, my pc takes forever to start up once I log in, and it can take over 15 mins to shut down.

I also installed another hard drive: 1TB, 7200 rpm, 32mb cache, not sure if that would reduce the performance more, but I only did that recently.

My friend said it could be a virus or memory leak. I'm no closer to finding an answer to this, hence joining a forum that could potentially help me. I know some of this is not game related, sorry about that. All help is appreciated.

Hey bud, welcome to PCHF,

A good rule of thumb when moving the comp is to always make sure all cables are still firmly plugged in and it's clean inside (dusted out) as during moving, things can get a bit loose or dust can be moved around and might suddenly clog your heatsink(s).

After you've done this, you could try taking a looking at your process list in the task manager.

You can also do the pre-work found on PCHF and follow the instructions.

If you haven't run any scans lately, may want to consider running em as a precautionary measure.

I also doubt the new HD would have an impact, but if you'd like, you can unplug it temporarily and see if it changes anything.

Thanks for responding.

I will take it apart and refit it all tomorrow and see if that helps.

Here's my task manager:

Where can I find this pre-work?

Thanks for the help!

Well, I wouldn't take it apart per se, but if you feel confident/want to do it, then be my guest! Make sure to clean it thoroughly too, can't hurt

Your process list shows it's not something apparent at least, I'm assuming the 100% load is temporary and due to the rapidshare manager.

You can find the pre-work right here: http://www.pchelpforum.com/new-hijac...e-posting.html

PS: Btw, I meant to say 'Hey Bud" in the first post.. Edit button disappeared, d'oh >.<

Alrighty, just checking, because for some people it's a daunting task

Post a link to your new thread here if you do the pre-work, just so I can follow along even though I don't believe I'm allowed to post about HJT logs.

If you'd like, you can try resetting your BIOS as well, I've had random problems where my CPU would get stuck at 100% load and setting BIOS to defaults and re-doing my config fixed it..
