Ive taken another screenshot, you can see the bad texture lines that have happened concurrently with the shadow problem. I never had this problem before in any games, now it happens in all of them (i think).

Okay assuming your graphics card is up to scratch which it looks like it is:

In the nVIDIA control panel did you mess with the Quality/Performance slider or the global settings?

Because there are quite a lot of individual settings that you can alter. What I do is set the Quality/Performance to High Quality.

Then in global settings I turn everything on/have nothing 'Application Controlled'.

I think the issue is that the game has scanned your hardware and set your video settings to its own configuration. If you change the global settings or alternatively just the settings for an individual game, you should see some improvement or at least a change.

It may take a while as there are at least 20 individual settings to play with. For safety/peace of mind you should either take a note of the default/current settings or have the drivers on standby so that you can restore it to default if something happens.
