Default Downloading Steam Not Working

I'm currently trying to install Steam on my work computer. Any time I try to pull up steampowered.com to download it, I always get a page error from IE7 that tells me that Internet Explorer cannot display the page, make sure that I'm typing the address right, etc. The same thing happens with the steamcommunity website.

The computers that we use are blocked from letting us download anything other than pictures, so what I ended up doing was emailing myself the file I needed to download Steam and changed it to a .jpeg, downloaded it and then changed it back to the .msi file. Everything worked fine and it downloaded, however when Steam tried to load to start the automatic updates that it needs to do before you can run it the first time, I got an error message saying "Steam.exe (main exception): Unable to load library Steam.dll".

If anyone has any ideas as to how to get around this, it would be much appriciated.

I could be wrong but if is a works PC then I wouldnt think you would have the administritive rights to install programs.

I don't, that's why I saved it as a .jpeg file first. That's the only kind that they allow you to download. After it was already downloaded, I changed it to a .mis file. That let me install it because the installer was already dl'd onto the PC.

I just need to see if there's a way to get the updater for Steam to work as that's my only problem now.

Hello, yes I see this is possibly an admin problem.

How does this computer belong to?
Does it have parental controls setup?
Are you admin or someone else?

Like I said in my original post, we can't download anything other than pictures because of the fact that I'm not admin on my own computer. I've gotten around that part, I just need to know if anyone can help me figure out why I can get to almost every other website other than steampowered or steamcommunity since I need to dl the updates for Steam before I can use it.

I think we need to see what is causing this problem.

I strongly recommend you click the "Prework" link below in my signiture and copy and paste the results back here on your thread.

Let us rule out an infection of some kind first.

Hi Suffokait,

Unfortunately, for legal reasons, as you don't own the computer or have administrator rights on the network we are unable to assist you with this problem.

If your IT department will not allow you to install software on the pc's due to company policy then we will not instruct you on how to illegally hack or bypass the security measures they have in place.

If you have any other problems that you require assistance with we will be most happy to assist you. This thread has now been locked - please feel free to PM me if you disagree with this.
