Default Direct3d Related Problem

I'm having a problem with Direct3d. I recently installed a new graphics card, and since then it hasn't been functioning properly. I cannot play many 3d games. I decided to come here when I tried playing "Narbacular Drop" and got the error: "Direct3D Takeover of window failed. This should never happen, so there's really nothing you can do."

Try changing the colour settings from either 32 bit to 16 or 16bit to 32.

This seems to be a rare error, from what I can find. Nobody on my list of techie contacts has ever seen a fix for this error, but I am told a few have seen it happen.

All I can suggest is fiddling around with the graphics settings, or upgrading/reinstalling your GFX drivers.

Hello and welcome to PCHelpForum.

I am having trouble finding this error.

Firstly could you go to "user CP" and fill out your computer specs and check box show others.

Have you tried reinstalling DirectX?

Are all your drivers up to date and downloaded from the manufacturers website?

As you have not listed your card If it is NVIDIA do you have the NVIDIA control panel installed? As in advanced options you can setup for diffrent games.

Or if it is an ATI card do you have the Catalyst installed?Again you can setup using this software.

But firstly listing your computer specs may help you with this issue.

Try what I have posted and see how we go.

Could you also discribe your issues with playing diffrent type games more fully.

Setting to 16 bit will give you a terrible picture on your monitor.

Well, I installed the latest DirectX and downloaded Catalyst (ATI gfx card) and things seem to work now. I didn't even have to configure anything in Catalyst. Thanks!
