battlefield 2142 1.50 patch problems HELP

High all i finally got BF2142 working again, i managed to reinstall the game i was playing on single player as there were no servers available to me so i d/loaded 1.50 patch from E.A. and ran it, i started the game but at the login to E.A. it just switched off and put me back to my desktop.
I tried this several times but it still switches off and puts me back to my desktop doing my head in, thought it might be my fire wall so i disabled it for a couple of minutes but its not that i think??
Should i have installed the 1.40 patch first or does that not matter??

Hey Buckdude,

My personal welcome to PCHF. My first instict is that the answer is yes, sometimes the software programers write the updates to only recognize the previous update. But with games they don't usually do that, they include the previous updates.

Have you tried downloading anything else from EA? Have you tried the 1.40 update? Have you noticed anything else acting oddly?

Hi again , no i couldn't get it to work ive tried installing the 1.40 patch only
but everything loads up it lets me log in to E.A. i go to click on a server to join, then it goes to load the server & says something about otimizing shaders,it loads up about 3 seconds then it crashes straight to my desktop with no sign of the btf 2142 programme aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhh man this is a knightmare.
Before i had loaded the 1.40 patch & the 1.50 patch that was loading up fine until the end of the wee cinema bit where you see the ingame footage then at the end the screen just goes black with the curser there.
what do i do ????????????

Did you uninstall the 1.50 install prior to trying the 1.40?

My first inclination is to have you completely uninstall the game, and add the patches one by one. Testing as you go. Is this something you are up for?

Otherwise you could just try checking Add/Remove programs to see if the 1.50 patch is listed, uninstall that, and try again from the 1.40
