Default Bad FPS

I recently have noticed (I just kind of starting playing games again after a long break) that my video card is totally underperforming...and I'm wondering why. I've got a Geforce 7600 GS and I can't even run Half-Life 2 on medium settings, and I was actually even getting much worse FPS than my old Radeon 9600 SE that I replaced in Counter-Strike (the original, not source..) Any ideas on this? I've tried disabling some of my background applications, it seems to make no difference. Maybe I've got some bad processes sucking memory? Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks.

Just realized I should probably post some of my other specs and also say that I've got updated nvidia drivers.

I have 1.5 GB of RAM, about 10 gb of extra space on my hd, 3.4 ghz processor. Combined with my 7600 gs, I would think I'd be getting much better performance in games.

Hi--
I am not a gamer... but I do have suggestion for use of this site.

suggest-- when you repost-- go into "User CP" "edit options" --scroll down the list.
List all your hardware in the spaces be sure to list the Brands and Model Numbers
-- at the top-- there is an option to "allow others to view my specs"-- click on yes.
It saves a lot of time between posts if while you check something I can go look up your motherboard manufacturer's site and read the manual.

You can also list your OS...all this is a great time-saver for us-- we can view everything quickly to refresh our memories... as we are all working multiple threads at once.
This would be automatic from that point on-- so if you have another problem six months from now-- we can instantly know what you have.

This would help any of our staff/users who do Game to help you.

Great thanks - I'll do that in a few. Go ahead and delete this - I'll just post a new topic.

I would start of by ensuring that the card isn't overheating, this is a serious cause of under performance. Check your systems core temperature, which should not really exceed 65. I have found this to be the cause of some major issues in regards to FPS in the past. To check your core temperature download and install Everest Home Edition which can be found at |MG| EVEREST Free Edition 2.20. Post back with your systems core temperature
