new ati 4000 series cards are looking good, im gonna get 4870x2 when it comes out. But i think that you will be looking at a more powerful psu if you want to operate a graphics card that will play next gen games, but before buying it all make sure your motherboard has the right card slot, and that your cpu wont bottleneck your proposed graphics card

I spent $160 on a PNY Verto GeForce 9600 GT 512MB. Good for HD graphics and it's pretty darn powerful. I would recommend it, as I am using it currently and have had no problems.

Only there are a couple things you should keep in mind:

#1 - This video card, and most of other newer video cards, is HUGE! I could barely fit this thing in my case. I would make sure your case has enough space to fit it in and make sure that after you put it in there is still extra space for better airflow in your case (because of #2 below...)

#2 - These kind of cards produce quite a bit of heat. I got a aftermarket cooling fan that fits in the extra PCI-slot I have and it keeps the case cool inside, but doesn't make that much of a difference. Personally, it is nothing to really worry about, just something to keep in mind.

#3 - I can play Crysis at medium-high settings with this and it doesn't lag at all! Highly recommend.

Good luck, any questions just ask me!
