I definately need a 500 watt power supply or better? My buddy is saying to try the card without it before I go and buy one, sounds dangerous. Power supply first, right?

It's specific requirement is 425 watt, but you always want to get more than enough because power supplies list their max power, not constant power. So a 500 watt power supply can sustain 500 watt power spikes, but not a constant 500 watts of power.

So yeah it's a good idea to get 500 watts at least if you don't have one yet.

Okay I got the card and the power supply. One problem though, I realize now that I dont have a PCI express-capable motherboard (I'm trying my best to stay calm and not let the frustration allow my wall to become fist-capable), so I guess I need to either return this card for a non-PCI express or get a motherboard that supports it, any suggestions?

I found this: Newegg.com - BFG Tech BFG680i SLi LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 680i SLI ATX Intel Motherboard - Intel Motherboards
But yea, need help, send reinforcements.

I've made that mistake a few times in my day lol. It's nothing to get in a tiff over.

But yeah, at this point, I'd say keep the card and work on upgrading or buying a new computer. It wouldn't be worth your while to try to beef up what you have currently. It wouldn't even be worth buying one single part for in my opinion.

The real question is...are you ready and capable to spend some money on upgrading? It's not worth your while to buy a motherboard that fits your old components but has a PCI-Express slot just so you can use the new video card. And also, do you feel prepared to do it all yourself?

I'm willing to try to help you walk through it and build a PC, but understand that you may get it all together and end up having some problems. I don't want to start recommending you build a machine to save some money only to find you threw it out the window when it doesn't POST or something lol.

If I may jump in here, I agree with Wadd.

Also, a new barebones PC can cost less than a motherboard by itself.
Just be careful that the components of the PC are what you want and are better than the recommended minimum of the games you want to play.

That's a good point. If you can find a barebones machine with the motherboard, psu, and cpu already installed, then all the hard work is done for you. Then all you do is throw in the video card, memory, hard drive.

However, I just checked Newegg and they have a terrible selection. And I don't think they come with the cpu. I don't really shop anywhere else, so I wouldn't be able to recommend where to get a good barebones unit from.
