Default software to prepare computer for games

Hi,

Just wondering... My computer is pretty good at crashing my games. And no it's nothing to do with drivers... you have no idea how many times I have heard that word, and I do not want to hear it another time.
And I have good hardware specs too.

Is there some sort of software which will create some sort of atmosphere to run the games in which would do something like stop all other processes from affecting it, or loading up things that will enable the game to run more smoothly.

Something like Sanboxy, or like an OS that does nothing but run Windows games.

Just wondering if there is something out there that is similar to this. Or, If there is no such thing as the holy grail to PC game solutions, then i won't be surprised.

Hi,
It would be a big help to the Pro's if you post your spec's. At least then they may be able to spot something you 'may' have overlooked.
Also, which games in particular are you wanting to play?

*Sigh* O.k. here's a dxdiag.

Games range from:

Assassin's creed
Dark Messiah Might and Magic
Hitman Blood money
hard to be a God
Sim City Societies
Half Life 2: Episode 1
The list is endless..............

But the main problems are:

Dark Messiah
-Missing patches, then crashes (Already had support for this, only conclusion was updating my latest drivers to the latest drivers once again, didn't work)

Assassin's Creed
-Game crashes or quits expectantly, no missing patches, never been quite able to finish the first Jerusalem assassination)

The problems are so endless that it is pointless to have support for them all, I'm guessing that there is no such things as the holy grail of PC game solutions then.

ForceWare 174.20 XP (32-bit) download from Guru3D.com there is a newer driver here may be worth a risk if you have any problems just uninstall them and reinstall the ones from nvidia. The WHQL drivers are December which is quite old. I know you didnt want to hear about drivers again but hey ho lol

O.K. here is what i have done...

I reinstalled dark messiah, made a new game (worked fine)
Restarted, and reloaded and then it crashed as soon as it was finished loading.

I reinstalled Assassin's creed
Installed the nvidia Beta driver...

Assassin's creed exited right after I assassinated the first target in Jerusalem (It usually crashes sometime during the getaway after I assassinate him)
I checked the even viewer, and there are no errors around the time of the crash.

And Dark messiah exits right after it is done loading now.

I've checked the UBI database about Assassin's creed...
There are only 4 knowledge base answers about it, none were relevant.

And they are trying to avoid letting me ask a question as usual. (However, their support team is off until tomorrow. But that doesn't justify not allowing me to get to the ask question page)

oh great... I tried starting a new game in Assassin's creed.
The game exited with no warning or error 20 minutes in.
