Default Vista w/TF2 help.

Well, Ive been trying to run Team fortress 2 for a long time and it keeps sending me a "hl2.exe has stopped working" error. It then says "windows will try to find a solution for you" and it crashes. I have googled this topic up and down, but cannot find a fix.
I am running home edition vista 32bit, Its got an integrated graphics card. The model of the computer is a Compaq Presario. Any help would be great. Thanks!

Check your Firewall. Is the game in your Exceptions list?

Yea, both on windows firewall and the router's firewall. I get to the menu screen just fine but once I try entering a game it crashes after loading everything.

Suggest you download and install this program (it's free) CCleaner ... Alternative Download.
1. After installing...run the program...click on Analyzer...then click on Run Cleaner.
2. On the left side of the window, click on Registry...click on Scan for issues...click on Fix selected issues.

This program will cleanup your temp files and cookies which could be interfering with your program.

Does it crash only when connecting to an online game or a local game?

I have TF2 on Home Premium 32-bit and have no problems at all.

I pretty much only have TF2 and starcraft. and it only crashes when I try to play TF2. I thought it might be due to the Integrated graphics card on my computer, but I'm not positive. I have an Intel graphics media accelerator 950, Intel Pentium dual-core Processor E2140, a 1024mb memory stick on a Compaq Presario Model SR5310F. It runs the Vista Home Premium 32-bit.

Hello SuperBOBman Sorry for the delay.
A fantastic way to see if your computer can run the game is this website Can You RUN It?
Select Team Fortress 2 from that drop down list, let it scan your specs and then it will tell you if you meet the minimum requirements or not

Default Re: Vista w/TF2 help.

It could be your onboard graphics - see this thread - not sure if its accurate because a lot of people have the exact same problem as you especially after the april 08 steam update.

Believed Intel video card based crash. - Steam Users Forums

Here's a snippet of what someone else posted about the april 08 update - sorry I realise it doesn't help your problem but I still can't stop laughing

Posted: 04/04/08 Wow!

New update for Steam and TF2 yesterday ...and ..no more problems on exit!

....because NOW i can't even START my Steam-Games! Is this ok? Hmmmm... i don't think so!

For me, it looks like all these "HL2.exe stopped working"-problems on exit AND start are the same!

Ok back to trying to help you get this sorted - this has worked for people who have Vista

FPSBANANA > Forum > STEAM - Steam > Other/Misc > Hl2 exe. has stopped working

Apart from that perhaps you do need a new graphics card or hopefully when the next patch comes out it will be fixed.
