When I try to start Warcraft 3 it says: unable to initialize direct x. please install dx8.1 or later blabla.
The game worked perfectly fine before formating and I ran dxdiag and saw that I indeed have dx9c installed on the system...

Just try this for me.

Go to Start
Run
Type in Dxdiag
When the box loads go to the 'Display' tab
Make sure DirectDraw and Direct3d acceleration are both enabled.

If they were both disabled but you have now enabled them restart your pc and try running Warcraft 3 again

They were both enabled. I uninstalled ati drivers and installed omega ones and works fine now. Who knows...

The omega ones any good Stepes? Like extra FPS at all?

To tell you the truth I can't compare now after the format.
But once I had installed them after the ATI were already working. I didn't see any difference but I didn't have some fps counting prog open, so I can't be sure. I believe they offer more configuring with which you can get more fps but I haven't been tinkering about in those, just left them on defaults.
I can't say I have any complaints from them but don't expect getting 20 fps up in games, hahaha.
It's propably all in how you use the configuring tools it provides I guess.
Ah and you get rid of this hog of a Catalyst Center which always slowed down my startup.

For some strange reason though this time the drivers falsely recognize my graphics card as an X1050 although its a 9550Radeon.
