Game Fails To Work Properly
- ~ Usually I don't "advertise" any game title, but I think I need to tell which the game is, in order to make pogress and get help.
- ~ For persons/people who play Constructor, or have played it before, either on PC or some other platform.
I have Windows XP Pro SP1 (that is, not this PC, my other PC which is not Internet Connected). I have 2 problems, but the latter is, now, the most "important", keep reading and you shall find out why. - I had previously installed Constructor, which as far as I know, is a DOS Game. I installed it and realised it was for WIN'95, so run it in Compatibility Mode for WIN'95. It works fine. Recently, after loading my save game, and checking a tennants complaint, clicking a button to go to their house, the game is supposed to load to their house, but instead, the game closes. Also, after reloading my save game, and trying to enter a tennants house without using the same method above, the game still closes.
- I try to reinstall the game, and run it in compatibility mode again for WIN'95, but now, when opening the game, it doesn't even load, it closes back to the desktop.
Anyone got any help to try and fix this?
Thanx.

Re: Game Fails To Work Properly
Hi dc...it might be worth while trying to run it inside DOSBox...
If a game was "designed" for win95, chances are, it may still run in DOS...however, due to the age of the game, i don't really like your luck all that much.
Alternatively, you can download Virtual PC from Microsoft, and install an old copy of Windows 95 or 98 that you may still have, or friends may have. Then you can run it inside that.

Hmmm. I do have DOSBox, followed how to mount, but it didn't want to work for me, because my main drive is actually D: on that PC (because when I formatted the drive, and installed XP, I chose an option to set drive C as only 7 MB, but I don't know why. I haven't rectified that yet.) I chose to TRY and mount in D: instead:
MOUNT d d:\program files\installed games\acclaim\constructor
But I get a message something to do with to mount C:\WINDOWS I need to MOUNT c c:\windows, but I try MOUNT d d:\program files\installed games\acclaim\constructor and it returns the same message, so I don't get it! (?).

Re: Game Fails To Work Properly
Sorry dude, this is getting into the realms of "it's not worth it"...to fix DOSBox, you'll probably have to format, and have C drive as the main partition.
Try the Virtual PC route, or even just put together an old box...will probably be easier in the long run.

Better in the long run, yes. I'm working on putting together my own thing. I wouldn't exactly say that it's not worth it; I like that game!
