when running cod 4 a messege showe, saying something like:
your rank and challenges can't be found, they have been restored. now iäm back on rank 0.
please help me, i want my rank back.

Are you running version 1.3? I know this was a known bug with version 1.0 You can download the patch from here Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Retail 1.3 Patch Download - FileShack - Download PC Video game patches, videos, betas and trailers for PC, PlayStation, Xbox 360 and Wii As for you getting your rank back I don't think that's likely.

They're not stored externally on a server, just on your own computer. You can have a look in My Documents somewhere, but i'm pretty sure the bug physically removed them.
While playing COD4, you didn't buy any chance on the menu go to Mod - Mod Warfare did you? I know that in version 1.0 if you played Mod Warfare and then switched back to the normal COD4 your rank was deleted.
