Default Problems installing/playing some games

Hey I just got my new pc built and running. Got all the drivers installed and such. Here's the specs:

AMD A64 X2 4800+ 2.5G
BIOSTAR TFORCE TF7025-M2 7025 R Motherboard
Rosewill 550w Power Supply Unit
G.SKILL 2x1gig ddr2 800 RAM
Nvidia PNY 8500gt
120gig SATAII HD
dvd/cd R/RW
20" hp widescreen+17" flatscreen
Logitec g15 keyboard
Logitec g5 mouse

Running xp 32-bit
I don't have this computer hooked up to the internet yet. So I have yet to dl any driver updates or anything.

Anyway after I got all the essentials out of the way I started installing my games. Went to install CS source... install error on the 3rd disk every time.

Moved on to BF2. Would install and run... but would freeze everytime I tried to start a single player server. Dunno why.

Installed FEAR. Played perfectly on max settings all across the board with average around 50fps.

I'm sorta guessing that the cs discs only allow for one install. But I figure I'd ask about it anyway. I'm going to try to download it from steam once I get it hooked to the internet since it's registered and everything

I have no idea what's going on with bf2.installs and starts up perfectly. It's been registered before and I've uninstalled it, and reinstalled it without re-registering it to play single-player before just fine. Thats what I did this time. Installed it without registering it but it just won't play.

Thx for any/all help

well I threw a new cd drive in and bf2 got up and running with no problems. Played perfectly.

Still the same problem with cs source. says file missing on disc 3. If anything I figured it would be the other way around and cs source would be good and bf2 still wouldn't play... I dunno. One step closer. Any ideas on what to try next?

Try the steam download route. I have only ever used my disk once, other times downloaded from steam. As long as it is linked to your account

grrr, now I'm having problems with steam. Got the computer hooked up to the internet and started updating steam... well it updated the first time. Ok, went to open it and it said "only 1 copy of steam can run at a time". But the box wasn't in the running processes area down by the clock. so I stopped the process in the process menu(ctrl+alt+del) and started it back up. Started updating again... and did the same thing once it stopped updating. Now I'm updating it for the 3rd time and it's just sitting at 0%. What a pain.

Close steam and try this

Try going to C:/Program Files/Steam/

and delete clientregistry.blob

then try opening steam

deleted the file and started steam again. It's updating again. I guess I'll wait and see if it lets me open it once it's done updating this time.
