It's a horrible program that is the spawn of satan.
In regards to the ports that you need forwarded...2300-2310 is what Age of Empires 2 uses...for both UDP and TCP.
Port forwarding depends on the router and the model of said router.
I recommend doing it on the DSL modem connected to your network card.

hey mate, i play aoe2 with a friend all the time, try running a crossover cable from his computer to urs then retrying with TC/IP or IPX protocol
, also is onboard lan enabled in the bios of both your machines?
