Ok, this is the progress I have on another forum......

Me: Original message as above
Soundwave: Is there a reason you have the router connected to your network card and the DSL modem connected to your USB?
Also the problem may lie in the way you have this all set up.

Take the USB cable out of the DSL modem and your computer and reboot your modem, router, and computer.

I think this may fix your problem as it seems the router is not getting the external IP address of your DSL modem in order to communicate with your ISP

Me: ok i'll try that. the reason I had it set up liek that though was because when I had my computer only connected from the router, there would be a few seconds of absolute lag every few minutes, which totally threw off my online gaming, but i'm willing to risk it.

What should i do once I've done that and restarted?

Soundwave: Give the game a go again. You should not be getting lag from going through the router.

As far as port forwarding goes you need to set the port numbers to forward to the computers current IP address. So that way the router is transparent to communications coming in on that port.

Me: Ok, i just wanna double check to make sure I'm doing this completely right. After I restarted, the comptuer connected to the internet, but the internet wasn't working, i had to get rid of the static IP I had set. Then I tried playing the game, it still didn't work

You'd be better getting help off one forum at a time, as it can get confusing, as to what you've tried and what you haven't.

Have you read my guides on the other page?.

Hi guys...

noone has said the real obvious one...Gamespy

It's a horrible program that is the spawn of satan.

In regards to the ports that you need forwarded...2300-2310 is what Age of Empires 2 uses...for both UDP and TCP.

Port forwarding depends on the router and the model of said router.
I recommend doing it on the DSL modem connected to your network card.
