Default STUCK key on games using laptop

On games where I have to hold certain keys down ('W' to move forward in FPS games for instance), the action attached to that key repeats itself. For instance, when playing Unreal Tournament 2004 I would hold down the 'W' key to move forward for about 3 seconds and let go, but my player would continue to move forward for a bit (player moves longer depending on how long I hold the key down for). Also, when this happens I can't do any other actions such as shooting with my left-mouse button.

I've looked all over the internet for a solution but haven't found one, just other people with the same problem. I'm using a laptop, as a lot of the other people with the same problem were using. So it could be a laptop keyboard thing. Any help would be greatly appreciated as there seems to be no solution available!!

Hi welcome to the forum The laptop will have some software loaded on it for the keyboard and mouse this might be causing the problem or may be you have sticky keys turned on you can try turn it off by pressing your shift key 5 times. Another thing to try would be to stop all startup items from loading to see if it one of the programs playing with it you do that like this

How Disable the Startup Group in Windows XP ( WINXP )
1) Click on "START" then "RUN"

2) Type "MSCONFIG" and click on "OK"

3) Click on "STARTUP tab", now remove the tick from all " ITEMS" and click "OK" when you reboot the start programs will be disabled.

Default weird...

Thanks a lot for the help madmatt2006 I appreciate it!

weird.. I disabled all the startup programs and it fixed the problem!.. so I started enabling the startup programs a couple at a time to figure out which program was causing the problem. I ended up having all of them checked (back to "Normal Startup" mode), and the problem was still fixed though. So I'm not sure which program was causing it! I have a feeling the problem will come back.. I'll post again if it does.

Sounds like it is some thing in startup if it happens again renable them 1 by 1 you will work it out for sure then. Most likely some kind of keyboard software for the laptop keyboard. Glad it's working properly

I only get the "lagging" a little bit now on Unreal Tournament 2004 which is weird.. not so much that I can't enjoy the game like I was unable to before, but it's still there. Very weird. Also... now and even when all startup services were turned off, this problem still happens in Half-Life 2. And when I first got my laptop the game came with it, and it worked fine with no problems. I've also run antivirus and antispyware programs. So, since messing with the startup services doesn't help (as shown by Half-Life 2), could someone please lead me in the right direction?
