Hi LGW

Thanks for your response and the warm welcome.

I think I managed to resolve the issue of the pc restarting by giving the fan a good clean.

I have now discovered another issue of the pc turning itself off and staying off.

When i try and log into windows, the pc will just turn off before reaching the login screen. The few times that i have managed to log in, the pc turns off after about 30 secs. I hit F12 whislt rebooting to see if it would again turn itself off, but this time it stayed on ok. It only seems to turn offwhen loggin into windows normally.

I also tried to boot in safe mode but the safe mode option isnt avaliable!

I am not totally baffled by what is happening and I am currently re-installing windows as I didnt know what else to do. ( i am currently using laptop)

I had it mentioned to be about the possibility of a sasser worm and was advised to run a program to eliminate any worms but I cant get the PC to stay on in order to do this.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Many Thanks

* ok im not sureif this post is in the right forum now. I have managed to reformat the hard drive, but the pc keeps turning off when trying to install windows. I have tried it numerous times now, it loads up and says 'restarting setup' then I accept the user licence, wait about 10 secs and it turns off. I really dont know what to do now seeing as I cant even install Windows. Please help, *

Thanks

Hey GBs,

When you did the reformatting, did you first delete all partitions, and recreate the partitions that you need? Because there is no way to determine exactly what type of malware caused this malfunction, that would be the best way to handle this, in order to make sure there are no traces left. I just want to be sure that you are doing the install with a copy of your Operating System, and not a Restore CD.

Assuming that you have the OS CDs:
Read the instructions in my signature for installing XP, the beginning part of the instructions for removing partitions should walk you through that part. If you just wish to work with one partition, you only need to follow the beginning instructions for the next section, and allow the entire disk space to be used. Once completed, follow the formatting instructions, and Windows should install properly.

Looking forward to your reply,

TTFN

Hi LGW

When i did the reformat, i did delete all partitions and recreate the ones that I needed. I followed the instructions on the disk that was provided with my PC.

This seemed to reformat fine, the pc then reboted and began installing XP. This is when the PC turned off and keeps doing so, therefore the Xp installation wont complete.

I have had a look at the instructions you provided and this is what I had done using the disc I have.

Many Thanks

OK GBs,

Then let's talk about the CD that was provided with your PC. Can you please tell me what it says on the front of the CD?

Looking forward to your reply,

Hi LGW

The disc is titled

Fujitsu Siemens
Product Recovery CD-ROM
Windows XP Home edition - SP1a

It also says:
The software included on this recovery CD-ROM was pre-installed on your hard drive at the factory and may only be used for backup and recovery of your Fujistu Siemens computer system.

Hope this help

Thanks

Hey GBs,

It does indeed. Since you have owned the PC, have you added any PCI cards, and hve you removed your printer and any peripherals from the PC?

Looking forward to your reply,
