Default [Fixed] CS :Source Won't Run!

Okay, this is making me mad now. I've tried EVERYTHING.

I installed Call Of Duty 2 yesterday (Which didn't work. < Minimum VC Req.) And then I was like whatever, so I got on Steam, tried to play CS:S, and it..didn't run?..I Double-Click and it says "Preparing to Launch Counter-Strike Source..." Then the box closes and nothing happens. I checked out Tsk Mngr and hl2.exe comes up for about 1/2 a second then closes. I hope I can get some help.

Here's what I've tried so far :

-Uninstall CoD2
-Reinstall Steam
-Reinstall CSS
-Restart Computer

But another thing..2 or 3 people said to go to Start, Run, type msconfig, but I can't do that! I'm running Windows 2000, which is most likely the problem.

I'm thinking of reformatting.

Thanks for your help.

EDIT: Btw, Im 100% positive this is because of CoD2.

Hey, if you need the msconfig file then no probs! You can use the XP msconfig file in Win2K

Download the file HERE and save it to c:\winnt\system32 then you can run it from Start > run > msconfig.

Hi Spectre,

Right click on My Computer and select Manage.
Goto Event Logs and Application Logs and see if there is any red X anywhere...if so - see if it has anything to dowith HL2.exe or steam.exe

Are you able to load any other games from steam? HL2? Lost Coast? etc etc

Thanks GarHar,

No I am currently not able to run any HL2 based games.

But I CAN run HL1 based games, e.g Team Fortress Classic, HL1, Counter-Strike 1.6.

And yes, I see a red X near the top. But it's related to MS Internet Explorer.

Alrighty...

So your computer seems to be having a bit of a problem with the source engine...

Ok, update your chipset drivers and video card drivers - you can get both from here nVIDIA Geforce 8800 8600 7950 7900 7600 GT GTX ATi Radeon x1950 x1900 x1800 1600 XT Pro - Guru of 3D: PC Hardware Reviews
