Default Upgrading my pc for gaming.

Soerry about posting this in the otehr section was a mistake.
Not sure if this is the correct section but it seemed the most appropriate.

i am currently running a:
1.Geforce fx 5200
2.2x512 mg ram
3.Pentium 4 3.0 gz

Pretty bad computer for gaming, cant run anytihng thats come out this year on it.

I wanna upgrade it so this is what i was thinking:
1.Intel pentium e6600 or e6700 (these seemed like good processors for a good price, there duo core, was wondern if i should wait for quad? or will i not need quad for awhile?)
2.if someone could reccomend a motherboard for me from ksp.co.il (they have an english version) since that is the only parts supplier i have access too (i live in israel) i would like a cheap (if possible) motherboard that i wont need to replace for a long time (prefereably compatible with quad core)
3.graphics card: again im not sure....i heard that dx 10 is coming out. so should i wait for that? or will it be a long time till that is required? the only dx 10 graphics card i saw was teh geforce 8800 and that thing is pricy. please reccomend a card (even if its the 8800)
4.Ram: i think i can figure this out by myself except....i dont know what teh difference is between ddr2 400 and ddr2 800 and ddr2 1000 etc.....
i am planning on keeping the same harddrive and sound card and disk drives etc.
Please keep in mind i dont wanna upgrade again for a while (2 years if possible, not sure it is with the way computre technology is advancing)

Sorry for my english not from america.
thanks again.

Welcome to PCHF riacg!

1. Just get the E6600, will give you great performance. And not many apps are threaded for quad core so it isnt worth it atm.

2. Motherboard: M.BOARDS for INTEL ASUS - P5B Deluxe s775, Conroe, P965, DDRII 800, PCI-E. Asus are a very good quality, reliable make. And the P5B Deluxe is a great buy.

3. Graphics Card: To take advantage of DX10 games you will need Vista, the 8800GTS is the cheapest DX10 card i think and will provide very good performance. It could be worth waiting though as they will become cheaper.

4. RAM: You need to get good quality RAM and preferably with good timings, PC6400 is a good choice, DDR2 is the only option with Core2Duo builds. I recommend this which is 2GB but if you cant afford get 2x512mb version of this, pairs will run in dual channel which is faster than if they are on their own. -
TWIN2X2048-6400C4PRO

That should last you at least 2 years, unless you wanted to upgrade.

Also will you be overclocking?

Chris (Upgrader764)

P.S. Why did you choose united states for your country if you arent from there?

i always do, sometimes choosing israel causes problems.
I thought about overclocking but i thought that damages your parts? ccan you please elaborate alittle about it?
and the motherboards that you reccomended, do they support quad cores?
and you think that setup will last 2 years? what if i dont get teh 8800?
last question, my computers powersupply is 400 watts, will that be enough?
thanks.

Yep overclocking, can lessen the life of your components, you shouldnt need to do it anyway, that will be a good system.

Yes it is quad-core compatible. Overview here.

It wont play some of the latest games in a year or so as they will be DX10 unless you get the 8800 im afraid.

Check Power Supply requirements here - eXtreme Power Supply Calculator - What Power Supply Do I Need

And you need to have a reputable brand power supply in case it fails, so that it wont take your parts with it.

I just checked out teh prices, and its ******* expensive!
like 1548-1948 dollars depending on certain pieces.
just to save money i was wondern if i can use the two 512 ddr ram sticks i have currently? i dont think they are ddr2 though.
last thing:
i havent really dont this before usually someone does it for me, but i would like to do it this time.
Is it that hard? i looked up some guides online and it didnt seem too hard.
I need to switch out the motherboard, cpu, ram , graphics card and possibly the psu.
would that be hard for someone who has never done it before, just relying on guides online? if it is too hard i can pay someone to do it for me but i would prefer to do it myself.

It is likely you have DDR ram in your system, you will need DDR2 ram for this. It is very easy to do it yourself, your motherboard manual will cover most things and the rest can be found out in guides.
