I believe it's on the cards that AMD are going to be building quad core cpu's with 1 of the cores as a GPU....now that they own ATI

You are right though...nvidia is to intel, as ati is to amd...but i had one of AMD's first CPUs - the cyrix...gawd they've come along long long long way.

And in regards to the two x1950's in crossfire - sure...but that's old technology...get 2 8800GTX in SLI and it won't be the same situation.

Personally however..I'd wait until ATI release their DX10 card...and get that...it will be much better then the 8800.

Also - the Ageia physx card was a waste of money to start with - i'm sure they've increased this now...but when the card was first released...the games that did support it reportedly had half the performance instead of twice...

I'm not trying to disagree or disuade....i just personally believe all the facts are necessary to make a decision
Personally i would take Alienware over Dell, but its your choice and Alienware are fairly expensive.

it also depends on how much $ you're looking to spend. The Dell XPS 700 and 710 are excellent gaming computers and Alienware is known for making gaming computers. I personally have had zero problems/complaints with either brand name, although I am sure we all have our experiences.

if you are looking to play games, any moderatly priced system is going to be out of date within two years. Even top end machines at the moment will be mediocre in that amount of time. If you think about it, this time two years ago. Single core cpus, 512mb ram, 80gb HDD, nVidia 6 series, ATI were actually decent. Although those kind of specs are still decent in a workstation, gamin systems require top end components, which are continually evolving and sadlky becoming more and more expensive. If you want a future proofed gaming machine you are looking at future proofing it for a max of one year, unless you are willing to turn down the graphics and res. on the games of the future.

As for ATI being on par with nVidia, possibly even better.. well hopefully AMD will bring them out of the wilderness and they might come somewhere close to the "bang for buck" that nVidia provide. I think it would be aweosme if AMD started looking into designing motherboards and possibly bringing out say a motherboard, CPU and graphics card combo drives, and offer them in a range of perforamce optimization levels and offer drivers that keep the entire system up-to-date in one bundle. It would also offer better support and simplfy things for beginners and people who just wants a computer that they can start playing games on straight away and not have to worry about compatibilty.

Sorry if that was a abit off track

Should be a nice system though. Have you got it yet?

If you use the mentality that "I'm going to wait until something better comes out," you'll never buy a computer. They're getting back every single day -- it'd be a continuous wait.
