Default [Fixed] Doom 3 Error

Hey guys,

I decided it's about time to lay of the homework and start playing Doom 3 again. It hasn't been on my system since I reformatted about 6 monthes ago. Anyway, I installed all 3 disc, went to play it and it gave me this (long) error message:

Hi zellerscrossing. Welcome to the PC Help Forum.

First thing i'd do would be to update video card and chipset drivers.

Then install the latest patch for doom3.

I am working on getting the patch downloaded right now. Do I need to place the patch in the same folder as my Doom 3, if so which one?

As you are probably getting the notion already, i am not quite the master of computers yet. How do I find which drivers are correct for my video card? When i go to "system information" my computer says "windows cannot open help and support because a service system is not on, to fix this problem, start the service named 'help and support' "

is there a easier way than opening up my computer and trying to read what my card says?

Hi zellar,

that's no problem at all. Once you download the patch - just run the file, and it will automatically go where it's supposed to go.

With your video card, right click on the Desktop, select Propertes and goto the Settings tab. Once there, it will say "Type of monitor" on "type of graphics card"

In regards to the 'Help and Support' service, click on Start -> Run -> type in services.msc and push OK. Scroll down until you find Help and Support double click on it, and select 'Automatic' and 'Start'

OK, I'm pretty sure i have a Radeon 9600 XT AGP Does this sound right?

So if that is right, do I just get the latest drivers off the Radeon website?

Thank you for all you help!

Yes, that does sound like a video card

I'll link you directly to some drivers that will improve performance a bit...
