You've probably gotten this question a thousand times. But in game, after maybe 30minutes to an hour the game locks up and the sounds just skips. It's happend with Guild Wars, which runs with DX9, and Dawn of War, I believe is DX9. So, could DirectX be the problem? When I reformatted my computer about a week ago, I installed the motherboard drivers for the AGP slot, then my graphics and sound drivers, then DX9. Could that be the problem? If it is, how do I fix it?

Hi Guillame,

Yeah, I like that one, and someone added this one recently, , I soooo relate.

Anyway, did you make sure to do all of you updates? That can really make a difference, especially with your DirectX stuff.

Double check, and Microsoft Update, and then post back.

Looking forward to your reply,

TTFN

Default This is gunna have to wait...

Had a problem last night.
Computer crashed...
Have to reinstall windows...
Just to make sure I don't make a mistake, which order should I install the drivers and DX9?

By the way, I have 3 copies of XP, 2 home upgrades, and an OEM. One of my home editions has to be activated by phone as it's been activated too many times, if I installed the new one on both computers, would I have problems? I just don't want to deal with the phone activation people again.

Crashes... They make me and

Hey G,

I don't see a problem with you installing the other Home upgrade on both PCs. However, make sure that if you are going to install, you do it clean. Use FDISK, not just the WinXP utility to delete, and then recreate your partitions. Then format NTFS, and then install your OS.

I can give you more detailed instructions if you need.

Looking forward to your reply,

Have you seen these? (Thought maybe you could use a chuckle) LGW

I've never used fdisk indepth before, so I may need a bit of clarification on that. The rest of the installation is fine, must have installed Windows like 30 times.

Heh, I like the hairy thing. Anyway, I got my computer back up and running, I rewrote the bootsector and now its all fine. But I'm still freezing on those games and there aren't any updates on the windows update site.

I hate computers

This looks like fun though

Hey G,

Looks like more fun than fixing computers! LOL.

Have you run memtest on your PC? It really does sound as if you are having RAM issues. Either that or you are running hot, have you checked your temps?

Looking forward to your reply,
