how do i make it so that others can access my IP to play these games? for instace i set up and tcp/ip gam on age of empires then give my friend my IP address and when he inputs it it doesnt show any game/rooms (this happens for both quake 2 and age of empires) and if he tries to start a game on his comp then i type in his IP same problem no game listed.. however hwe can play freelancer together just fine.


So Im thinking either my IP is blocked some kinda way (seeing as i have windows firewall (which i disabled) and Norton internet security but I look at it this way if that was what is preventing us from playing then why does Freelancer work fine? Also i may have multiple IP addresses and just trying to connect using the wrong one. because i went to www.whatismyip.com and wrote down that ip.. gave it to my friend started a agme on age of empires and quake 2 both with the same problem i mentioned above so then i went to the windows command prompt typed in ipconfig and wrote down my IP from there (which by the was was different from the one at whatismyip.com) gave that to my friend tried it with both game and still no success.


I also tried playing AoE at the zone.com (microsoft gamming zone) created and hosted a room when my friend got in and got ready i launched the game and it failed to lauch so he tried hosted a room and when he launched it same thing. However what i did notiuce is me and my freind couldnt connec tto eachother on quake 2 but when we searched online for active quake 2 servers and tried to connect to those it worked fine so we had no problem connecting to other peoples q2 servers and playing with eachother. same for AoE at the Zone we both went into someone elses created room and when bhe luanched the game it worked fine. So why cant me or my friend start our own games?
