Default [Resolved] BF2 problems...

Hello, In short..

Battlefield 2 has been working a treat..up untill i installed Outpost Firewall Pro. It's ben on a couple of days but i only fired up BF2 last night...when i try to connect to the server i get the error message..

'error connecting a socket'

Please help.

I have tried adding the BF2exe to the trusted proggies list..no change.
Tried adding Gamespy to the trusted proggies list..nothing.

I have now removed them ready to start afresh..any suggestions?

I was using the Secial Forces Exp. Pack at the time.

I also have NOD32 Anti-Virus. Everything else is as it was when it worked..i only chandes Firewall+A/V.

2 meg connection..Belkin Wireless Router to which i'm connected by Ethernet.

Any more info i'll try my best. I wasn't sure to put this in Games or Software as i'm not sure which is playing me up...please move to other forum if you think it's best.

Kev..:computer_

I've seen a lot of people on forums saying they can't play at all on wireless connections... But what you must do is turn off your firewall completely before playing like everybody else has to... BF2 has problems with firewalls, especially windows firewall... So turn the firewall off, turn the antivirus off, exit all running programs, messengers, internet etc... That should do it.

EEK!!!

Not so sure about that one. I've been playin for a couple of months on Panda Internet Security and all worked fine..just allowed the prog and away i went. It's since Panda ended and i switched to NOD32/Outpost things have gone haywire. Not true bud..it can be run with the security going to.

I have a wireless connection but i'm plugged in via ethernet..the 'wireless' part is for a seperate pc to use.

Well have you disabled the firewall and tried playing? Does it work? If everything is closed then your firewall won't need to be on anyway so don't worry about that at all... For me if i leave my firewall on (ZoneAlarm) I'm more prone to being kicked from servers with the error message "There is a problem with your connection", because it works overtime everytime somebody connects to the server that you are in... So it's best just to close it before playing. Antivirus too...

Hi Aweegin!

If you were to drop your firewall and the server let's you on then you know that NOD32 is your problem. If you still can't connect then you've at least ruled that out.

As for AV it's not so bad to leave it running for most programs.

Ehhmm.. youre firewall should ALWAYS be running when connected to the net.. If you have an router with NAT built in you could take the Chance but i still wouldn't recommend it.

Good change that dropping youre firewall has contributed to these posts by you:

Hi, as usual..yours is the suprisingly simple test that slipped by me..i shall try that.

Up untill this week i had Panda Security..and i could play just fine (i did get the connection error and got booted off..but just thought, hey and rejoined). Anyway..Panda ended..so i installed NOD32 and Outpost. For the life of me Outpost is tricky to configure so i got shot of that tonight and put ZoneAlarmPro on..i have yet to try.

I do have NAT and hardware firewall built in to my router...but i'd never wanna leave my software protection off!!! It's just a matter of workin it out. I do have the appropriate ports open in said router. (understandin your comment was directed at Dayve.)

I'll keep you posted if i sort it..now gonna try..again!!

Thanks guys.
