Default [Fixed] pc game crashing

Hi All,

Please can someone help me, When I play THE MOVIES, and THE SETTLERS HERITAGE OF KINGS game it runs fine for about 10 to 20 mins then suddenly the display frezzes, I can still hear sound for about 5 seconds then sound frezzes then monitor goes off and I cant switch it back on and cannot get back to windows, I have direct x 9.0c and latest drivers from ati (x800xt).

Please cac someone help, I do not think it is a graphics card problem as it runs call of duty2 and F.E.A.R flatout no problems.

Hi Jonnyboy,

Welcome to the PC Help Forum.

We have a great staff of tech and security experts who will be more than happy to help you out.

To rule out a heat or malware issue, please install and run Motherboard Monitor 5.

Try playing the games that are locking up your PC and note the temperature when your pc fails.

To start the process of ruling out a malware issue please follow the instructions in the *Prework* Link in my signature.

You can also try searching for the latest patches for those games maybe there is a bug fix recently released. Do you have all the latest patches for the games?

I would uninstall "Logitech\Desktop Messenger" unless you really use/need it , but other then that you are clean.

Have a look with speedfan to double check those temps:

Hi, uninstalled logitech desktop still crashing but tried game on lowest graphics setting and it runs for about 2 hours before crashing???could it be a graphics card problem??It runs call of duty 2,sims 2,far cry and motogp3 on highest graphics settings all day, I am very confused as to why, could it be just a dodgy game??.

Oh I have pc probe software installed from motherboard disk it says cpu 60c and board 47c on temps. How do you check temp of graphics card??

Just went to srtest site and it came back that my video card driver version (direct x) 6.14.10.6587 and sound card 6.14.10.6246 as a !.

I have only just updated graphics driver from ati website(I have Radeon x800xt 256mb pci-e) and cant find sound card driver on asus site (I have p5 ad2-e board).

60c is pretty hot for a pentium proc , was that reading taken after playing a heavy game? (to see how hot it gets under load)

Also here are youre sound drivers: (dont ask why it are 5 parts.. ask Asus lol)

Cmedia CMI9880L Audio driver V5.12.01.0008 for Windows 2000/XP/2003.(WHQL) part 1 of 5
Please download all 5 files (CMI9880L_32bit-part*.zip), extract them into one folder, execute CMI9880L_32bit.part1.exe.

Thanks for sound drivers will install later and try.

sorry gave incorrect readings for temp.

cpu : 43c

mb : 38c

graphics card : 60c

Oh by the way you have been very helpful thanks.

when game crashes and you have to restart it sometimes puts windows on lower graphics settings (800*600 and sometimes changes bit from 32 to 16 or 8 on color settings.(normally on 1024*768 32 bit)

Im thinking of trying the game on my old pc to see if it works ok.:cheesy:
