Default C&C Red Alert 2: Yuri's Revenge

I'm sure most of you love the C&C series, my brother bought the complete series pack case for it and we wanted to play some LAN together on Yuri's revenge. So I install RA2 and then Yuri's Revenge and do the updates and what-not. When I try to play it however, the game starts loading, gets to a black screen and then crashes to desktop, I tried playing the normal RA2 and that works fine, Yuri's Revenge also works fine on my brother's computer. Both run Windows XP SP2 with all updates and both have ATI Radeon 128Mbs cards so I don't think that's the problem. I remember that it's not the first time I had problems with Yuri's Revenge, last time I fixed it was by installing Windows ME on my secondary HD but I can't format either of my HDs right now seeing as I need them so I'm looking for a different solution...

That game can't run in WinXP normally:

Yuri's Revenge system requirements are:

-Original C&C Red Alert 2 is required
-PC CD-ROM
-Windows 95, 98, NT 4.0, 2000, and Milennium
-PII 266 with 350 MB of hard drive space
--64 MB of RAM
-2 MB of Video RAM
-16 bit color
-4x CD-ROM drive
-100% Microsoft compatible mouse
-Direct Sound compliant Sound Card
-NO HARDWARE ACCELERATION REQUIRED

But you can make it work by rightclicking the desktop shortcut and select properties/compatibility tab , and put a check infront of "run this program in compatibility mode for:" and select an other O.S. there. i.e. win98 or win2000.

Ooooooh, thanks

Well now it loads... but it doesn't recognize the CD... lol
So now it asks for me to insert the CD in the drive, since the original CD is already in drive I click OK, but it says "Error blah blah blah"

Do you have multiple cd/dvd drives? If yes , try the other.

And maybe since the Original C&C Red Alert 2 is requirerd , you need to use that cd to play? Never hurts to try.

Well I saw the best deal ever for a CD/DVD drive so I only bought 1 since it did everything I needed (burns/reads all DVDs and CDs at a max of 52x) for only 30$. So yea, only got one and the other computer has 2 but the second one for some reason only does burning, it doesn't read discs (***** ain't it?).

I tried the 2 other RA2 discs and those didn't change anything, I think I'm going to have to get a patch for the game:undecided

Well unfortunently none of my friends have any of the old C&C games (a real pity), I'll try different things.

Thanks for the help
(What happened to the tech point system thing that used to be included in a user's profile?)
