Default [Answered] Change Files\Buffers in Config.exe

I've got the game X-Com Apocalypse that when I go to install it, it comes up saying it needs Files\buffers set at 20\20 and that I've got it set at 40\0. When I seclect "Sugest Fix" it tells me "To increase the files or buffers, modify the "FILES=x" or "BUFFERS=x" statement in your CONFIG.SYS file and reboot." I've looked all theough the msconfig file and can't find whare to do this. Any help in fixing this problem would be greatly apprecated since it was one of my favorite games when I was capable of playing it on my previous computer.

Are you using Windows XP?

X-Com is obviously an old game and used MS-DOS to help it run, hence having to set the buffers/files.
I have never had to change the Buffers or Files in Windows XP but I have had a look into it and XP uses the following files:
Config.nt
Autoexec.nt

They are located in the C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32 folder, you should be able to use notepad to open these files.
Open the config.nt and change the FILES as specified, if BUFFERS doesn't exist in the file then just add it under the FILES section.
Hope this helps

Also, you can run any "old" software/games in compatability mode in XP.

Right click on the .exe file that runs the game - select compatablity mode and then select Windows 95/98 etc until your game runs successfully.
