Default [Conversation] Far Cry - The New Half-Life?

I bought Far Cry about two months ago and i am still playing it on and off. I play on the hardest setting and as there is no classic F5 save option (only waypoints) it is hard going.

I used to play Half Life to death and am really looking forward to HL2 but I just thought it was worth saying that this game is as close as I have ever felt to the original Half Life.. The troops, scientists, monsters - if HL2 is anything like this then BRING IT ON!! :

Default Far Cry - The New Half-Life?

I understand what you are saying Mazz. It does "feel" like the first time I picked up Half-Life in <ahem> 1998. It's the small stuff that makes Far Cry such a great game:

* The water - it just looks.....real
* The way the shell casings sound as they fall onto different surfaces
* Driving the vehicles
* Smoke and steam look excellent in the game

All in all a top top game and one well worth buying!

Totally agree with you - the water is my favourite part....I just stopped at the beginning of the game and looked at it for ages. :shock:

I haven't played it but you guys are making me wish i had. Methinks I need to get hold of a copy and check it out - SOON!

Do I need a "monster" system to run it?

You don't need a monster, but it sure helps if you want to see and play all the classy elements that make this game so beautiful! It is power hungry, but any bog standard system such as hengis' will run it fine....

j/k Hengis!

Anything above a P4 2.0 and a 5600 would run the game just fine. At least 512MB of RAM. This game seems to love RAM.

I can run at 1024x768 with a couple of highs and very highs. Although users of anything below a 5900 class card might want to keep their lighting to low. Mne seems to lag horribly even at medium.
