hey guy's i decided to overclock my cpu today and i dont really know what im doing but i do know that too much is not good for it. i was woundering if anyone can help me. i got a p4 2.66ghz processor and i clocked it to 2.95ghz is this soo much or should i make it less ? or can anyone reccomend what i should set it too, this would be a big favour. and also one more concern what should i set my CPU: Dram frequency ratio too ? here are the choices, my ram are DDR400, and the choices are 4:3 - 1:1 - 4:5 - 2:3 which ratio is best ? atm it says my Dram frequency is 148mhz. someone help me asap. thanks. =D

I disagree. The link I provided is a step-by-step explanation of the how's and why's of overclocking. If you can't understand the steps outlined there, let me strongly suggest you forget about overclocking.
Overclocking isn't like setting the cruise control or picking out a radio station in your car. Waking up and deciding to overclock is the wrong thing to do, and if you want longterm stability and serviceability of your computer the process requires a good bit of understanding. That is, it's NOT a set and forget proposition. If you were looking for a short and sweet "Hold your mouth this way and set this to that", no responsible/experienced person would advise that. Even identical processors, motherboards, RAM, etc. (when combined) will require slightly different settings to be successful. There are NO cut and dried universal adjustments, which is why the process needs to be understood to the 3rd or 4th decimal place. Are you running the stock Intel HSF? Do you have a program installed to monitor your CPU temps in real time? Does it monitor Core temp or CPU temp? Do you know the difference? Is your computer a name brand or assembled from aftermarket parts? What is the range of CPU clock adjustments provided in BIOS? What are your computer specs (CPU, RAM, motherboard, PSU, GPU, etc.)? Have you installed a program to stress test the system after an adjustment? Do you know the Intel recommended maximum temperature for your CPU? Are you prepared to replace any parts which fail due to the stress applied by operating outside factory settings? There are more pertinent questions, but I'll stop there. Having said all that, let me say I have been overclocking everything for a number of years. I recommend it, but only for those who have done their homework beforehand. Failure to understand the intricacies can be disasterious.

If you did this with the BIOS Just work up in blocks of 5-10mhz on your FSB or/and change your clock multiplyer and make sure your computer is stable when running at higher speeds and doesnt hang or crash. Im not to sure about memory timings but I wouldnt worry about that too much. RAM timings I read a little on in and It would be better just to play with the fsb or multiplyer and not touch timings it appears you can mess up you computer really bad and loose data. Since you said you dont really know what you are up to dont worry bout the timings, and if you do OC be careful of HEAT it can ruin you CPU- more speed=more heat
