I'm confused here... I can only get a stable CPU overclock if I take my RAM from 1066 to 1000 (it shows that in AI suite on windows but shows it at I think 1037 in the BIOS?) So right now my processor is running at 2.86 GHz from 2.66... and the RAM is at 10000 or the BIOS says 1037 or something close to that (forgot lol) but will this give me an actual increase or decrease in performance? Sorry I'm still a little new to this overclocking thing but I want to improve some gameplay, etc. If I change the multiplier, can I run the RAM back at 1066 and still OC my CPU? A little mixed up on these settings. BTW RAM is running stock latency @ 5(all)-15

Update... I got it to run @ 3.00 GHz! YAY! I set the RAM to 999MHz becuase i don't want to run it too high form the origional 1066. So what kind of performance effect will this have? And how does the multiplier come into play with these settings? I understand everything else, just these settings confuse me and I know that they are the most important.. I guess I"m still a n00b >:[. BTW, I am running crucial mem without heatsinks... Do you think it I stepped the voltage up +2 and tried it at a higher than normal frequency will it be too easy to damage the RAM? I don't think a +2 step in voltage will hurt it? Thanks a bunch for the help!

Ahh, yes, this classic issue. Your problem is that your CPU and RAM are linked together by the means that you are using. That part of the specs that are stock at (what I think is) 200? know what im talking about? instead of using that to OC the cpu, use the multiplier instead. If that wont do for you dump the RAM ratio from 1:2 to 1:1.66, and then try it.
Find out what your max voltage rating for your memory is, and use that. What the best thing to do is to UNLINK the memory and the CPU. You can do this yourself, but there wont be an option in the BIOS for this. What you need to do is leake that static (what i think is) 200 alone, and just mess with the multipliers. AND GET HEATSINKS!!! |
