Post Please help on overclocking

Hi guys I'm very much a beginner to all of this I recently built my first computer the specs are:

CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4600+.
Motherboard:Asus M2A-VM (not the hdmi one).
GPU: I'm using the motherboards intergrated graphics.
RAM: Kingston 1gb.
PSU: Hyena switching Power Supply Model Number: DR-B300ATX
HDD: 250 gb

I'm going to get the antec 900 and a new power supply maybe something like the silverstone element and I thought I might have a go at overclocking. Is overclocking worth it? What programmes do I need installed?

Any replys would be much appreciated

I have not idea. I've never done overclocking and never will. I keep my computer hardware at factory specs.

If you can't follow the given instruction, I'd recommend not messing with overclocking unless you can afford a new computer.

I can't speak for other people but I wouldn't dream of overclocking that board.

Budget motherboards and overclocking simply don't make for a good mix regardless of what some may try to tell you.

When a person becomes interested in messing with overclocking the first order of the day is to invest in ALL premium parts and the second is to do a lot of reading.

Your best course is to frequent places that focus on specifically that aspect and try to learn from them.

The hard part about engaging in it is that there are no cut and dried instructions because every piece of hardware out there is different and even if we had the exact same motherboard, CPU, and memory, there would still be no guarantee at all that settings which work for me would work for you.

The OCCT is mostly a tool to stress test your system for stability once you've made settings changes in your BIOS.

If you do not know what you are doing in the BIOS you can cause serious and permanent harm to components.

Caution can not be emphasized enough.
