when you say "first boot" do you mean after the windows desktop is already loaded ? If you wait till windows (and all startup items) and all icons in bottom right are loaded (say um 2 minutes) does it still flicker when you launch your browser then? or does this ONLY occur in the first couple of minutes after booting up the machine? sorry, im tryin to make as much since as i can.

(mine flickers when my ATI control panel is first loading . but not after that)

ok i can try and help you out here i dont know if this will fix anything but make sure your monitor cables are connected tightly, ive had slightly loose monitor cables make my screen flicker black for a couple sec

i doubt very seriously you killed your chip xD

if nothing else will work at all you can try reseating all your cards and cables and dust everything off, this has fixed lockups for me

hope i helped

EDIT: if you dust out your computer, use the canned air blowers that remove dust, you can get them at staples or office depot, also dont turn them upside down and spray... the air in it will turn into a cold liquid if its upsidedown lol
