Hello smokeycheech and welcome.
This is just an opinion and to be treated as such.
First off if you are going to overclock drdroopy gave you an excellent suggestion in making sure that you have a good temperature monitor on board. I prefer core temp as it's to the point and doesn't come with the configuration issues that often accompany speedfan but that's a personal preference.
Second I have several DFI boards and am very pleased with them and all the options they come with for overclockers.
I would not use the AMD tool but rather as a beginner would use the AutoBoost feature that the motherboard comes with.
As long as you take the steps to use quality parts suitable for overclocking (ie: not the cheapest memory on the market but something good like OCZ etc) I found that AutoBoost feature quite handy since it will give you several choices as to overclock targets.
I believe I used bank 2 and have been very happy with the results and own a very stable system.
You do have to be prepared for challenges because not all components give the same results so it requires patience and experimentation.
It's also a good idea to read information pertaining to overclocking applicable to your motherboard make/model.
I keep a link to
DFI Club Global Support Forum for that purpose as there is an abundance of information directed specifically to OC'ing.
Most of all don't get in a rush and be too eager to see maximum gains as you are risking your hardware when you engage in overclocking.
As for your current status I'm thinking something didn't take so it reverted back to a safe zone but I've never used that AMD tool nor would I from what I can see so I can't say for sure.
Generally overclocking does require voltage adjustments but what and where varies from board to board and model to model.
Read about the DFI auto boost and consider using it as a beginner, though I warn you the dedicated OC'ers scoff at it but I simply ignore them.
This page has a link to the Auto Boost manual as well as items pertinent to your board.....
