Is there a overclocking guide for first timers somewhere in here?

Yes, it's the 'sticky' at the top of this (overclocking) section:

oh yea i saw that but still even that seems a little hard to understand. was hoping for even more detail like what to do at BIOS and bla bla bla.

Also I want to ask how badly does overclocking affect ur CPU lifespan?

I have to be honest with you. IMO, if the detailed instructions provided by Merlin in both of his overclocking posts are over your head, don't even attempt to speed up the CPU. You'll be hard pressed to find better how-to information.

Do a lot of homework on the subject before attempting such an undertaking. Just Google 'overclocking' and read - read - read.

Overclocking your processor WILL void the warranty, can destroy it, and is more than likely going to shorten it's lifespan.

My best advice is to buy a CPU that already runs at the desired speed.

Default Re: Overclocking

There are some important points missed in that overclocking thread anyway it is not complete

It says raise the vcore a couple of volts this will kill a cpu dead however the bios will not allow such a high raise in the first place

I may be wrong but I see no mention of raising the V-Dimm voltages to the memory or any mention of keeping the memory timings slack and then tightening them at a later date

I also see no mention of raising the voltages across the northbridge which is often needed when running high FSB's

That is not a complete overclocking guide its very basic

I mean no offence btw

Absolutely none taken. I couldn't agree with you more.

The post was made from a beginner's standpoint. RAM, CPU, NB/SB voltage changes are well above a beginner's level. The references to DDR memory in the guide are obviously geared towards older CPU's and systems. Something a lot of online research would uncover, and knowledge of the process would bear out.

My recommendation to buy a fast processor in the 1st place will cover any out of date information in Merlin's posts.
