suggest-- when you repost-- go into "User CP" "edit options" --scroll down the list.
List all your hardware in the spaces be sure to list the Brands and Model Numbers
-- at the top-- there is an option to "allow others to view my specs"-- click on yes.
It saves a lot of time between posts if while you check something-- we can go look up your motherboard manufacturer's site and read the manual.

You can also list your OS...all this is a great time-saver for us-- we can view everything quickly to refresh our memories... as we are all working multiple threads at once.
This would be automatic from that point on-- so if you have another problem six months from now-- we can instantly know what you have.
okeydokey, done.
does whether a cpu can be overclocked depend on the cpu or the mobo?
what im getting at is maybe a new mobo would be a good idea?

You really haven't identified your motherboard. Under 'My PC' you list ASUS GeForce 6150, and all that tells me is the manufacturer and the board uses an nVidia 6150 Northbridge chipset. ASUS and numerous other brands used this chipset.

If you don't have a motherboard manual you need to get one and familiarize yourself with it's characteristics and adjustments. A model number and revision # is vital to obtaining a manual if you don't have one. A download for said manual should be available online, from ASUS.

okay it does mention anything about overclocking in BIOS so i assume i cant do it. it just says cpu speed, nothing about changing it. after all it is a hp prebuilt.
according to cpu z my mobo is:
manufacturer: asustek
model: nodusm3 1.05
chipset: nvidia geforce 6150
southbridge: nvidia nforce 410/430 MCP
LPCIO: SMSC

BIOS:
Brand: Phoenix Technologies
Version: 3.07
i dunno what of this is relevent!
