Default [Answered] E2160 Overclocking

Hi, guys.

After reading some comments on aria about my processor I would like to overclock my machine. Here are the comments:

newsletter - Aria Technology

As you can see, one person says that they have overclocked their machine to 3GHz with the stock heat sink. Now, I'm not looking for that kind of speed but these comments has lead me to believe that my processor has some serious overclocking capabilities. Unfortunately, this will be my first time trying this and I'm not confident that I can do it on my own with the instructions on this site (sorry). I was wondering if anyone can go through it with me? Here are my specs:

ECS P965T-A iP965 Socket 775 8 channel audio PCI-E ATX Motherboard
Intel Core 2 Duo E2160
2GB PC2-6400 800MHz RAM
Sapphire Radeon X1550
400w PSU

Hi Bikkit. Yes the E2160 is a fairly good overclocker. First check your temperatures and make sure they are OK to begin with. I recommend Coretemp for c2d temperature checking. Have you read the overclocking guide stickied at the top of this forum?

My case already monitors the temperature so that's quite convenient. It is at 33C and is very stable. I have read the guide, that was the instructions I was referring to in my first post.

Your case monitors CPU temperature, or just general case temperature. They will be different figures, I would still recommend downloading and trying coretemp.

Ah.. that's a point.

I'll try coretemp, then, and get back to you in a jiffy.

Okay. Both cores are running at 52-57C. A little higher than expected but that's just me.

Nope your right. If that's stock speeds then that is too high! Thats the kind of temperature I would expect when overclocked at load. Is your cable management ok? Also is the heatsink well seated?
