Overclocking - unlocking the multiplier posted in the Hardware forums; From several searches on this issue... I have to agree-- no way to unlock this chip. To OC it you have to start messing with a LOT of tricky settings ...

From several searches on this issue... I have to agree-- no way to unlock this chip. To OC it you have to start messing with a LOT of tricky settings --not something for newbies-- ESPECIALLY on "dad's PC" --you could permanently damage it if you don't know what you are doing.

lol no probs, i agree with you on the not on dads machine lol

If i had a P4 back home then i might giove it a try but as i only have a meager lil sempron i'll have to wait

The sites I visited said the only way to OC the Northwood core was to crank up the FSB as high as possible-- and in order to do THAT you have to mess with the RAM timings in the BIOS... not something I care to mess with, personally.:o

i thought of this as a possible solution to my overclocking issue, can you unlock the multiplier on a PIII Coppermine? I heard you cant, but i would like to check anyway. thanks
