Exclamation wont get past boot screen on anything but stock speed?

hi guys and gals,

PC specs as above in the little droppy downy thingy FYI.

when i go into the bios and try to overclock in the jumperfree configuration, on anything but 'standard' the computer wont get past the boot screen, it will just hang and not do anything. i had overclocked the CPU before to this...

Clock Speed 2400.1 MHz
Clock multiplier x10.0
HTT Bus Frequency 240.0 MHz

it would be fine until after around 30mins of gaming, then it would hang and i would have to reboot. so i knocked the HTT to 230mhz and it was all fine, perfectly stable after hours and hours of gaming. so i tried to gradually increase in 2mhz steps until it became unstable. but after i tried to change from 230mhz it wouldn't get past boot screen apart from on standard 200mhz frequency.

any ideas?

any advice or help would be greatly appreciated!

Dave

Hi Dave!
Welcome to PC Helpforum!

I do not have that much experience when it comes to overclocking, but are you sure your temperatures are OK?

2000mhz

i've read most people can run around 2400mhz on stock cooling.

It's running at 44c when idle? That sounds allright.
When overclocking, you have to deal with quite a few possible problems
- overheating, as mentioned
- errors, the higher speed can cause calculation errors (when not designed for, the bigger the risk of errors. Your cpu has a 2000mhz rating because at 2000mhz it will run most stable)
- the clock rating of both your video and ramc an cause problems, incompatibility
- changing either the multiplier or fsb can ahve different effects.
Most of the time overclocking is a game of trial and error, and a lot of cmos resets using the mobo jumper.
I'm sorry but I cannot give you specific advice as there are too many different factors, mobo, cpu (not only intel/celeron and speed/fsb, but also the 'brand'). Also, the risk of your computer being fried is too big, and I don't want to be responsible for frying your stuff, unless you really want advice on overclocking. I reccomend reading a few good overclocking guys and keep fiddling with the settings but be very, VERY carefull. Also overclocking severely decreases the lifespan of your cpu.
