Default Overclocking video cards, basic question.

I've noticed, that on all (or at least most) video cards, there are rows of jumper pins. I am correct in assuming that by "jumping" the correct pins, video cards can be overclocked?

 Hi Jones,

Gee your busy tonight. LOL

As I mentioned before, hardware is not my area of expertise. Let me link you to a couple of articles that may be of help to you.

http://www.pchelpforum.com/overclock...rclocking.html

Let us know if you need more information than that, I would also recommend reading through some of the threads on overclocking, we get these questions alot.

Do a search for overclocking and I think you will find quite a bit to chew on.

TTFN

LGW

Thanks, that link to the video card page will be very useful.

I'm not a complete beginner to overclocking, but I have yet to sucessfully get my target system clocked up.

It's a 350mhz PII, 194mb RAM, Matrox G400 16mb video card.

It uses dip switches, and I know the right configs, but the bios resets itself back to factory defaults every boot (after something has changed.)

So, no luck.

From hardware Central:

To overclock the Matrox G400 you must install the latest PDesk(TurboGL version) drivers from Matrox. You need not install the TurboGL for P3/Athlon.

Install the Tweaking tool.
Run the programme.
Click on the icon on the lower right bar twice.
You will see a screen on it with the overclocking stuffs.
Increase the percentage as shown 5% first, then slowly increase by 1%.
You should get about 16% as I do.
You may need to restart, so do not do anything during this period.

Wow... I didn't actually expect anybody to help me with that pc...

Thanks.

I suppose you mean PowerStrip? It appears to be the only one on the list that will work with something besides a Rage or Nvidia card.

Once again, thanks.

Have you checked if the motherboard battery isn't dead?

No, it's not that. It says every startup:

Compaq Deskpro
Blah Blah Blah
*beep*
BIOS Settings have been modified
Reverting to defaults

Stupid thing.
