Default Safe way to OC?

Is there an easy way to overclock the CPU? Like I have the ATi Tray and it does safe overlocking, testing out different speeds before applying them, making sure there are no artifacts and what-not. I'm switching to water-cooling for xmas and I'm definently going to OC my video card and CPU. CPU is a P4 3.42Ghz, socket 478. So am just wondering if there's a program for OCing the CPU or is it just through the BIOS?

I know of one program that can do overclocking. SpeedFan Otherwise it is through the BIOS, if the speed isn't hard-coded into it (sometimes it is). Be cautioned though that overclocking will lead to an early death of your processor.

Ah. No matter how good the cooling is it'll die earlier? Because I've been reading about people with the exact same CPU and watercooling kit and they have it OCed to 4.0Ghz and it runs at around 40 to 45 degrees.
Thanxs for the reply

Hmm, if you have a water cooling system I'm not sure... Maybe one of the hardware gurus can shine a light over this direction? :-D

Ah ok lol, because I know that if I OC it with just the fan it'll burn out from extreme heat generated by it

Yeah, I think it has to do with the heatsink as well...
