Default Overclocking Problems...........Sorta

My HDD died recently and i had to reinstall Windows on a new one i had my sempron overclocked to the max my mobo would let me and it was stable but after reinstalling windows on the new HDD the mobo is 5 degrees celsius higher than before and wont start windows oc'ed at all which sucks cuz semprons arent very fast. Im wondering if anyone nows the reason, theres no other hardware changes other than the HDD. FSB is at 200 it wont even go to 210 it was at 232 earlier today before HDD crapped out on me. Any help would be appreciated.

AMD Sempron 2800+(was at 1,8 now at a even slower 1,6)
ECS k8m800-m2
512mb Corsair
40gb HDD(would have had 2 if the other one didnt die)
MSI 6600gt

Hi Funkmastergene,

Welcome to PCHF. We have a wonderful team of techs here with a wide variety of computer skills, I am sure that we will be able to answer your question.

Unfortunately, this is not my area of expertise. However, I am sure that one of the hardware gurus will be on-line very soon with ideas for resolving this issue. Keep an eye out for their posts.

Hi Funkmastergene,
This almost sounds like some of your hardware got damaged due to the overclocking. You can try this:
Remove all 'unnecesary' hardware, only leave 1 stick of ram and, when you don't have onboard video, the videocard. Set the bios settings to either fail-safe or default and try installing windows again.
You can also consider cleaning your fans using a can of compressed air (NO vacuum cleaner, since this can destroy your fan)
Good luck, Bram

Quick question for you.. Do you have your AGP/PCI lock on? If not then when you overclock that semperon your overclocking everything including your Hard Drive.. I would go into the Bios, reset everything, and start all over and going up on the FSB slowly. And use a burn in test. But overclocking is always going to heat your CPU up especially if you over volt your power supply. Are your fans running normal? You can download this program and control them from your desktop..
