Hello & Welcome Angiek!
I would appreciate seeing a copy of your config.sys file. Config.sys files aren't common in Windows XP installations ![]() If you might perform a SEARCH of your C drive for the file CONFIG.SYS. Please INCLUDE Hidden Files & Folders in your search. If one is located, please open it in Notepad and copy / paste the text here.

i have performed the search including hidden files and folders but no file has been located. i have performed the same search in another pc that a copy of the dos application has been installed there too and works fine, but there was no such file.

Have you checked for an xp version of the program that you're trying to install? Dos programs don't work on xp without the use of a dos emulator. You can download one here called DosBox. I couldn't tell you how to use it though because I've never used one.

I just had a look on my system for config.sys and eventually found it. It's in what looks like system volume information or something.
To find the location open up a command prompt (Start > Run and type in cmd) Then type in (press Enter after each line) cd/windows dir /s config.sys Your command prompt should look like this. Note that the location of config.sys may be slightly different on your PC: C:\Windows>cd/windows C:\Windows>dir /s config.sys Volume in drive C has no label. Volume Serial Number is 7C56-55CA Directory of C:\Windows\winsxs\x86_microsoft-windows-ntvdm-system32_31bf3856ad3 64e35_6.1.7100.0_none_6f00717bc7a3a8e5 20/03/2009 16:42 10 config.sys 1 File(s) 10 bytes Total Files Listed: 1 File(s) 10 bytes 0 Dir(s) 27,308,187,648 bytes free Now, to find it copy all of the text from the command prompt (may need to copy it twice and put it into Notepad, thats what I had to do for the two seperate lines) Then copy and paste the path for config.sys into the explorer bar, I did it from the My Documents folder. You may also need to select Show Hidden Files And Folders under Folder Options in the Control Panel. And that's how you locate config.sys ![]() Note: To copy from command prompt I had to right click the window bar (top blue bar) and choose Edit > Select All and then Edit > Copy My Config.sys just says: FILES=40 If you set the value of your config.sys to 78 or higher then it should fix it. However, I just read that people with a similar problem have had success with DOSBox which is much easier than changing the config.sys file. ![]() Last edited by Amtech; 09-22-2009 at 11:36 AM. |
