Macs are prone to virus's as much as their Windows counterparts.

There is dedicated AV software for Mac's and one would have to be a fool not to use it as well.

Some random links:

Why get a Mac? Their hardware is overpriced and underspec'ed (for the price).

Sure, the OS is fairly secure, but you can get viruses/spyware, it's just not quite as likely to happen. But really, if you have good browsing habits, you're probably never really going to have much problems with viruses/spyware with a Windows comp either.. I don't run any antivirus software, 3 years and still going strong, problem-free.

My main gripe with OSX is that it makes me feel boxed in & stupid because everything is tailored to be transparent and there's nothing much to fiddle with or tweak to my liking. You get the mac, you turn it on, you use it, if you want to tweak system stuff.. you'll be sorely disapointed. The OS also seems to be tailored towards technology illeterate people, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it frustrates me sometimes.

I do love one thing about it.. I can run Final Cut Pro on it..

If you want OSX though.. so what I did, get a Vista machine, partition the HD, install OSX on it, dual-boot, done.

Which is the whole point. PC's are merely tools and should just work. MS even as a tool is inadequate.

I'll assume your mis-spelling was deliberate!

Misspelling was like yours, unintentional

PCs do "just work" install Windows, load up a few programs, off it goes, works. At least it does with XP/Vista/Win7 in my house. If you start adding more advanced programs though and things get unstable.. well.. that's your doing for throwing more things at it

I would never be able to live with a Mac though, just too limiting.

(PC = Personal Computer.. Mac = a PC.. Pet-peeve of mine)

But I do agree they offer some nice software on there (especially Final Cut Pro )

Sorry to bump an old thread but I got a MacBook Pro last Friday (see my profile for specs), and to be honest it was the best £1300 i have ever spent. It came with OS X 10.5 but Apple included 10.6 in the box and I upgraded to that. (who wouldn't). Im very please with it. The only software I have installed is Adium (multi protocol IM Client) and Neo Office (Free Office Suite, similar to Open Office)
