I have a large DOS system which I want to play with after a number of years on other things. I am thinking of converting the system to 32 bit with Harbour, then expanding it using Java and Eclipse, then giving it away, as this seems to make money. I am running in XP, but want to dedicate one PC to DOS for the initial steps. I downloaded a DOS 6.22 boot diskette and am happily with the DOS prompt. However the c: command gives me Invalid drive specification. What do I have to do?![]() |

Hi-- welcome to PCHF
As far as I know -- XP does not have true DOS capablilty. It is not based on MS-DOS-- like the previous Windows (95 + 98) The command-prompt is a kind of DOS-emulation. This is due to XP's new file-system NTFS. I have seen websites on how to run DOS games in XP: DOSGAMES.com: How to get DOS games to work in Windows XP! hope this helps.

Building on ih8bills post, go here and get DOSBox.
This will let you run dos based apps games etc., in Win XP or Vista. SourceForge.net: DOSBox DOS Emulator
